Composition Of Ink Ribbon

The finished ink ribbon generally consists of a shaft core, an internal lead film, an original ink ribbon, an external lead film and an adhesive tape. The original carbon belt is the core part of the product, and the others are auxiliary materials (see Figure 1).

1. Shaft core: There are two common ribbon of shaft core of ink ribbon: paper and plastic, which shall not be deformed and shall not slide during printing.

2. Inner guiding film: it is used to make the printer's sensor sense that the ink ribbon has been exhausted.

3. Original ink ribbon: The original ink ribbon is generally composed of three layers, including ink layer, base film and back coating. The ink ribbon can be divided into different types according to different components of the ink layer, so we will focus on the analysis of the original ink ribbon later.

4. External lead film: The external lead film is generally transparent, silver and blue, which is wrapped in the outermost layer of the finished ink ribbon  to protect the ink ribbon, and is also convenient for assembling the ink ribbon to the printer.

5. Adhesive ribbon: the adhesive tape is located at the front end of the external lead film to fix the carbon tape to avoid sliding and friction.


 Composition of ribbon


1. Back coating: It is located on the side contacting the print head, and is mainly used to reduce friction, prevent static electricity and absorb dust, and protect the print head.

2. Base film: also known as tape base, it is the carrier of ribbon, generally 4.5 μ The strength and thickness of m (micrometer) thick polyester film (PET) directly affect the quality and application fields of carbon tape.

3. Ink layer: It is located on one side of the label paper and is composed of pigments, resins, waxes, additives and other components. It affects the transfer temperature, printing quality, color of the ribbon, friction resistance of the impression and other main properties of the ribbon, and is the core of the ribbon. Common black ribbon ink components include carbon black, which is also the reason why ribbon is often called ribbon.
